It’s the end of a very unusual cycling season, and the Boels Dolmans Cycling Team has raced its final races in the well-known orange jersey. Boels Rental stops as main sponsor of the successful women's cycling team. From 2021, the team will continue under the name SD Worx Cycling Team.
In 2012, Boels Rental and Dolmans Landscaping became the main sponsors of the team. It was the beginning of eight great years in which the team achieved great success. For the past five years Boels Dolmans Cycling Team was the best performing women's team in the world. And the undisputed number one in the UCI ranking from 2015 till 2019. Before Boels stepped in as main sponsor, women's cycling was underexposed. Partly thanks to the arrival of the World Tour for women and the associated live broadcasts and media attention, women's cycling has become increasingly popular in recent years.
The riders achieved individual and team successes. For example, the team achieved first place in the World Time Trial Championships for teams in 2016. In that same year, Anna van der Breggen became Olympic champion. A year before Lizzie Deignan-Armitstead became the first worldchampion on behalf of the team. More World titles followed for Amalie Dideriksen (2016), Chantal Blaak (2017) and Anna van der Breggen (2018 & 2020). Other successes included the European Championships for Anna van der Breggen and Amy Pieters. In addition, victories in classics such as the Amstel Gold Race, Fleche Wallonne, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, Tour of Flanders, Gent Wevelgem, Omloop het Nieuwsblad, Strade Bianche and in major tours such as the Giro Rosa.
Cycling year 2020
This year was a different (cycling) year than usual, but the team's performance was no less! Anna van der Breggen won both road and time trial at the 2020 World cycling championships. Four days later, she won the Fleche Wallonne for the sixth time in a row. At the end of the season Jolien d'Hoore sprinted to victory in Gent-Wevelgem and Chantal Van den Broek-Blaak won the Tour of Flanders.
Together with Boels, the women's cycling team can look back on eight very successful years. We would like to thank the riders and staff for their fantastic efforts and congratulations on their achievements. We wish the team all the best for the future!
